What is in a Selank nasal spray?

The peptide is the same one we sell as a 10 mg lyophilised vial: tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), a fragment of the immunoglobulin G heavy chain, extended by a Pro-Gly-Pro tail that slows its breakdown. It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, alongside Semax, which has the same tail. Here it is dissolved, 20 mg in 20 mL (a nominal 1 mg per mL), and the current lot’s certificate measures benzyl alcohol in the solution at 10.51 mg/mL.

The animal studies on Selank mostly gave it intranasally: rat studies of hippocampal BDNF expression and of GABA-related gene expression in the frontal cortex both used that route. That describes the research record; this bottle is a laboratory reference material.

How Selank has been studied

Enkephalin-degrading enzymes (human plasma, 2001). Selank inhibited the breakdown of enkephalin in human plasma in a dose-dependent way (IC₅₀ 15 µM), more potently than the peptidase inhibitors bacitracin and puromycin.
